Lego Star Wars: Desert Skiff (9496)

While there are many Lego Star Wars sets that seem huge and daunting to build, the Desert Skiff is a relatively smaller set. The vehicle itself is not one which a fan would be rushing to buy, (“OMG Desert skiff?!”) however the Minifigs are what make this set.

First off, the skiff itself is easy to build.  The bottom has clear pieces to simulate the levitation of the craft, which I thought was a nice touch compared to ones that had sand colour to match the desert.  The skiff has a slide out plank, as well as a hidden compartment in the middle to house to plasters.

Another part of this set is the Sarlaac pit. A opening and closing mouth, and two poseable tentacles. Nothing to write home about, but the teeth surrounding the pit are a nice touch.

Now, on to the good stuff. First, Kithaba. One of Jabba’s goons on the skiff who’s presence in the film is as forgettable as his name. Luke Skywalker is dressed in his Jedi Knight black robes and comes with a lightsaber. Sadly, no R2 unit to launch this to him. Lando is in his disguise as one of Jabba’s men, and comes with a fantastic looking mask.  Finally, the best Minifig in this set is Boba Fett. With a cloth cape draped over one side, and a bigger blaster, this one is just plain badass.

Although it may not have the best vehicle, at the $30 price point you are really buying Desert Skiff for the Minifigs, which I personally don’t mind.
